WEDDING guests were taken for a ride by a newly-married couple - on a miniature train.

Keith Bayliss and Lydia Whellans decided to surprise their guests after they tied the knot at Huddersfield Register Office.

The guests thought they were all off to Greenhead Park for some wedding photographs.

But Keith and Lydia, of Almondbury, had arranged a treat when they climbed aboard the Huddersfield Society of Model Engineers' train.

Keith, a carpet manufacturer, said: "I've always loved trains ever since I first went on a steam one in 1968.

"I'd seen the one in Greenhead Park and it's so charming I thought I'd surprise our wedding guests."

He said part of the reason he arranged it was because the train is equipped to take wheelchairs, which meant his mum, Rose, could have a ride. "She loves trains, but hadn't been on one for 20 years," said Keith.

The train runs on Saturday and Sunday afternoons all year.
