A FORMER mill site could be transformed into an estate of houses and light industry.

Plans have been announced to convert the site into 158 homes and light industrial units.

Kier Ventures, of Bedfordshire, has submitted plans to Kirklees Council to demolish old warehouses at Black Rock Mills (pictured), Linthwaite, and build apartments and houses for one to four people.

The company plans to convert Grade II listed buildings Black Rock House and Waingate Cottages into homes.

Plans also include 16,250 sq ft of light industrial buildings, access roads, parking spaces, a nature area and children’s playground.

Black Rock Mills was home to woollen manufacturers Charles Lockwood and Sons from 1865. The firm closed 100 years later leaving 250 jobless.

Kirklees Council will decide on the application from June 9.
