A £250,000 plan will see Kirklees Council services in Birstall brought under one roof.

And if the pilot scheme is a success it could be adopted across Kirklees.

The plan, given the go-ahead by the council's Cabinet, will see cash pumped into Birstall Library to bring the council's local housing, cash collection and information services together.

The building will be extended and improved eternally.

Internally its layout will be revamped with modern furniture and fittings.

The building will be known as a `front line service point'.

Clr Paul Battye, Cabinet member for Customer Services, said: "If it is successful it will be extended to other towns and villages. Eventually we could have more than 20 Front Line Service Points.

"It will mean local people will not have to trail from one building to another."
