POLICE have confirmed no further action will be taken against former Huddersfield Giants forward Phil Joseph.

He had been arrested on suspicion of assaulting his pregnant girlfriend.

The professional rugby player was detained by police on the evening of March 3 following his appearance as a substitute for the Bradford Bulls.

It is thought police were called after an incident at his Golcar home which required his partner Keisha to attend Huddersfield Royal Infirmary for a check-up.

But a police spokesman confirmed yesterday no further action would be taken against him.

The prop forward, who left the Giants at the end of the 2004 season, has recently been given his chance to return to the Super League after a stint playing for Swinton in The Co-operative Championship, the league below the top flight.

He had also been running theKing Street pub That Bar.
