Firefighters managed to save a straw-filled barn from being destroyed.

Crews spent four hours at the scene of the blaze at Gledhill Farm in Almondbury to bring it under control.

The single-storey barn – packed with hundreds of straw bales – caught fire at around 3pm yesterday.

Some straw caught alight as an iron roof truss was welded next to the building.

Fire crews from Huddersfield fire station arrived at the scene and requested assistance from Brighouse and Elland.

Firefighters managed to confine the blaze to one corner of the barn by attacking it aggressively with tons of water.

Their efforts saved the barn and all of the equipment stored inside from being destroyed.
