A couple who met on the dance floor more than 50 years ago celebrated their golden wedding this weekend.

Roy and Aileen Senior, of Almondbury, were teenage sweethearts when they met at Rawlins dance hall on Railway Street on September 10, 1960.

Aileen, 69, said: “I remember the day. I was 15-years-old and a keen dancer. Roy was 18 and not that bothered. He had gone with his friends and I had gone with one of my friends. We were paired off together and that was that.”

They got married soon afterwards and had two children – Tracey who lives in Lepton and Jill who lives in Almondbury. Roy has worked in the motor trade all his life while Aileen went to college to learn secretarial skills which she put to good use working for two firms of estate agents – the first of which she worked for over 30 years.

They enjoyed an open house day on Friday for old neighbours and relatives and followed that today with a meal with family at The Woodman, Thunder Bridge.

They have four grandchildren, three girls and a boy as well as a great grandson and a great granddaughter.
