Parents will hear later this month the results of the survey into the proposed merger of Almondbury schools.

The consultation period ended two months ago and Kirklees Council has confirmed plans to unveil the findings on January 28.

Leading councillors will debate the issue at a Cabinet meeting.

The proposal on the table is to merge Almondbury High School with Almondbury Juniors and Greenside Infants and Nursery on the same site.

Now, in a letter to parents at all the schools, the headteachers have confirmed the consultations on the “all-through” school are complete.

The council received around 380 responses to the consultation from parents, carers, pupils, governors, schools staff, local residents and members of the public.

The letter says the details will be made available in advance of that date and will be circulated to all the relevant families.

The complex proposals, first mooted last year, would see all the schools merge on the Fernside Avenue site.

Greenside and the Juniors would formally close but the High School would expand to take in pupils from nursery age through to the age of 16.

The existing Almondbury Infants School in Longcroft is not included in the merger plan.

A spokesman for Kirklees Council said: “The proposals will be discussed at Cabinet and this will be the stage when all of the views expressed through the consultation will be published as part of a new report.

“While the decision-making process continues, Almondbury schools are continuing to work closely with the local authority to ensure that all local children and young people can access the best possible standards of education.”
