Young entrepreneurs sold their wares at an alternative market for budding business people.

And on a sunny Easter afternoon, shoppers flocked to check out a new shopping experience.

Kirklees Council hosted its second Alternative Market in St Peter’s Gardens following the success of the debut event last year.

Stall holders aged 13 to 29 were given free tables to promote their products, many of which were handmade arts and crafts.

Children enjoyed free Easter workshops and the event also featured live music from Huddersfield’s breakthrough acts.

Stallholders said they had done really well at the first market during the Festival of Light.

Amanda Walker, 23, from Dalton, said her wool figures business Claws and Fangs, had been given a boost by the initiative.

She said: “It’s great the council’s giving younger people the chance to have their own market.

“My mum first saw it on Facebook and I thought I’d do it as it’s a free stall.

“The first one was last year and it was amazing, I sold loads, it was really good!”

Kerry Russell, 24 of Kezly Beads, said people had been snapping up her custom-made jewellery, key rings and figures.

“It’s very good to have a separate market for younger people,” said Kerry from Cleckheaton.

“It helps us get into it, and helps us expand and gives us a lot of experience.

“There’s always something new to learn and new ideas.

“It’s been a good day.”

The next Alternative Market is on August 8 during the Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival.
