A major road was closed near rush-hour after an ambulance responder on an emergency call was involved in a smash with two other cars.

The paramedic’s vehicle was heading down Trinity Street, away from Greenhead Park towards Huddersfield town centre, when the accident happened.

It is not known whether the responder had its siren sounding or its lights flashing.

It is understood the ambulance collided with two other cars. A blue Ford Fiesta had extensive damage to the rear.

The smash happened at 4.03pm and police closed the road for around 45 minutes.

A spokesman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service sent two ambulances and a clinical supervisor to the scene.

The driver of the responder was not hurt. One other person was treated at the scene and taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

The spokesman could not say what the emergency was but insisted the incident had caused “no delay” to the response time.
