ANDREA Smith, of Kirkburton, has enjoyed a great deal of success with her pony Matilda over the last year.

She featured on the Equestrian page last year after winning the four-year-old Dressage Pony Class at the British Dressage Young Horse Championships.

Andrea and Matilda’s winning streak has continued as Matilida took the title at the recent Sports Pony Studbook Society Gradings.

The competition is run at the Heart of England Show Centre in Staffordshire. Matilda was entered in the Mare Grading class.

Andrea explains: “The grading is assessed on type, conformation, athleticism and temperament.”

The mares are shown in hand, under saddle and loose. The class was judged by international judges Celia Clarke and Claire Ballantyne.

Matilda was the Champion Mare and had a high enough score to become a Head Studbook Mare.

She is a registered part-bred Hanoverian by Medoc, out of a Welsh Section C Welsh mare Croftlands Dawn Princess.

Matilda, at only five years old, has 65 British Dressage Points. She has also qualified for the Winter Regionals at Novice Open and Novice Freestyle.
