MURDERER Andrew Lindo was jailed for at least 22 years today.

The man who killed his fiancee Marie Stewart at their Holmfirth home was today handed a life sentence at Bradford Crown Court by a judge who branded him as a man with "an extraordinarily cunning facility for deceit".

Lindo, 29, a music teacher, showed no emotion at all as he stood in the dock.

He had denied the murder of Miss Stewart, 30, but admitted manslaughter.

He murdered her, hid her body in the garage and then pretended she had fled abroad - while having affairs with other women.

Sentencing him, Mr Justice Andrew Smith said: "There could hardly be a more heartless device for concealing your crime and Marie's body and if anything could add to the tragedy and loss of a daughter, sister and friend, that was calculated to do so.

"I cannot tell why you killed Marie Stewart - still less why you killed her so brutally - whether there was a motive and, if so, what it was.

"I do not accept that you were provoked or suffering prolonged stress. But that evening you faced a crisis in the double life that you were leading."

Det Supt Dick Nuttall of West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team said: "Andrew Lindo has now been convicted of the Murder of Marie Stewart, a verdict which confirms that this was a cruel and deliberate act rather than the spontaneous and momentary loss of control that Lindo has claimed in his defence."
