Huddersfield Town legend Andy Booth could be punching above his weight when he takes on Mark Reynolds in a charity bout.

In the red corner, there will be experienced amateur boxer Mark, who was once a national schoolboy champion with 94 fights under his belt. In the blue and white corner, ex- Huddersfield town footballer Andy Booth!

The event, held in association with Rawthorpe Boxing Club, on Friday, November 15, is just one of a string of endurance feats the club is hosting to raise vital funds for the club which is run entirely by volunteers.

Back in September club members completed the Tough Mudder obstacle course at York.

Then last month they clocked up more than 90 miles in a bike ride from Liverpool to Rawthorpe.

Mark, who set up the club in 1998, said: “We are holding regular fundraising events to help sustain our club and plan one a month. September we did the Tough Mudder assault course.”

He added: “The expansion of the club’s work in the community has spiralled.

“With the different groups we have, our work in schools and the boxing academy we do in partnership with Kirklees College.

“We have more than 300 members from aged 5 to 80-plus!

“We have so far received over £1,000 in donations towards our target of £10,000 to revamp our gym and equipment and support to work in the community even more.”

Mark hopes ‘Boothy’s Bout’ at the John Smith’s Stadium will help raise the club’s profile.

Tickets for the night, which will also see Mark fight ex-Town hardman Darren Bullock, start from £15 rising to £40 including a three-course meal. For details email katie.barraclough@htafc.com or call 01484 484183.

The club runs boot camps on Monday and Wednesday evenings; there are sessions on Tuesday and Thursday for young people (from five years) and also the community boxercise classes on Saturdays. Anyone interested should contact Mark on 07747846977 or email mark.leftjab@hotmail.co.uk
