BUS users in Shelley and Shepley say they have been left high and dry after service cuts by Yorkshire Traction.

The firm has stopped the 237 and 239 services between Huddersfield and the villages after 6.20pm.

The services, which travel along Penistone Road, also no longer run at all on Sundays.

Kirkburton Parish Council member Mike Greetham said he has been contacted by angry passengers.

He said: "It's a disaster for people in those areas who don't have transport of their own, especially the elderly and young people.

"In Shepley they at least have a train service, but in Shelley there really is nothing."

Clr Greetham wants Metro, which oversees public transport in West Yorkshire, to find a way of reinstating the services.

He is hoping his parish council colleagues will back his plan when the planning and general purposes committee meets at Burton Village Hall, Highburton, next Thursday.

Yorkshire Traction declined to comment.
