A MEETING at church led to 50 years of happy marriage for a Scholes couple.

Raymond and Rita Bowden were married at Holmfirth Wesleyan Chapel on March 29, 1958.

They had met at Underbank Methodist Church when they both lived in Holmfirth.

Raymond, 72, and Rita, 70, both worked in the textile industry. Raymond worked as a pattern weaver for Graham and Potts Mill at New Mill and Rita worked as a pattern cutter at Josiah France’s mill at Honley.

The couple both stayed in the textile industry until they retired together in 2001.

They have two children, Avril and Darrell, and six granddaughters.

They celebrated their anniversary with a family meal for 65 people at Meltham Golf Club.
