A bar owner drove drunk after celebrating the opening of his new business.

Anthony Hudson was handed a suspended jail term by Kirklees magistrates.

They heard that he was three-and-a-half times over the limit when he got behind the wheel on April 24.

Police were called after his Ford Fiesta was involved in a collision with another vehicle at just before 10pm on Huddersfield Road in Dewsbury.

The 31-year-old was arrested and breath tests revealed that he had 122 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

This was three-and-a-half times the legal limit if 35 microgrammes.

The roofer, who recently purchased a bar in the Halifax area, pleaded guilty to driving while over the prescribed limit.

Magistrates heard that he had a similar conviction on his record from 2008.

They sentenced Hudson, of Nussey Avenue in Batley, to a 12-week suspended jail term.

He must also complete 33 days of activities including the drink impaired driver’s activity programme.

Hudson was banned from driving for 48 months and must pay £85 costs and £115 victim surcharge.
