A VAN driver may hold the key to what happened in a motorway smash that left a man badly hurt.

Police have appealed for the Asian driver who stopped at the accident, on the eastbound M62 near Stott Hall Farm, Scammonden, at 7am on Sunday, to get in touch.

The man, who was driving a red Mercedes Vito van, told other motorists he was on his way to a market.

He may have seen a Toyota Avensis hit a lamp-post.

The Toyota driver, a 30-year-old Heckmondwike man, suffered serious internal injuries and remains `poorly' at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
