ARMED police arrested five men and a woman during a series of dawn raids across Huddersfield today.

The six people are now being held at police stations in Huddersfield and Dewsbury.

They were all expected to be questioned later today in connection with a number of offences, including robbery, aggravated burglary, assault and possessing firearms.

They are a 40-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man from Fartown, a 21-year-old man from Slaithwaite, a 22-year-old man from Primrose Hill, a 27-year-old man from Sheepridge, and a 30-year-old man from Paddock.

A woman who witnessed one of the raids said she had been woken by the sound of banging outside her flat in Huddersfield.

She saw several armed officers surrounding a nearby flat and officers outside in the street with guns.

The area was sealed off at about 6.40am.

"It was very frightening" she said.
