Armed police were called to a quiet residential street in Kirklees after reports a man was seen with a gun.
The officers were called to Briarmains Road, Birstall at 8pm on Sunday.
A man claimed he had been confronted by a number of men who had parked a dark-coloured vehicle on the road.
One of them produced what is believed to be a handgun and made verbal threats.
No shots were fired and the victim was not otherwise hurt.
A 23-year-old man has been arrested and bailed.
Huddersfield CID said inquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
