ARMY recruiters will be on the streets of Huddersfield over the next week, in a bid to make up some of a 15,000 shortfall.

There will also be temporary recruiting offices in Holmfirth's Civic Centre and Dewsbury's JobCentre.

Specially-trained local recruiters will tell of the training, travel and sporting opportunities.

The Army has 15,000 vacancies, with recruits able to choose from 140 careers.

They include engineers, drivers, mechanics, technicians, administrators and bricklayers.

Lt-Col John May, in charge of recruiting for the North-East, said: "The Army offers young people a huge range of possible career paths.

"Huddersfield is traditionally a strong recruiting area."
