A 16-YEAR-OLD youth was arrested by police after a car careered down a hill and smashed into a wall.

The Slaithwaite youngster was arrested after a handbrake was allegedly let off a parked car on Heath Close in Linthwaite at 12.35am on Saturday.

The P-registered Vauxhall Vectra rolled backwards down the hill and smashed into a garden wall.

The youth has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

* There was a spate of so-called hill-rolling incidents earlier this year.

In the spring cars were broken into and handbrakes let off, sending them smashing into walls, other vehicles, trees and lamp-posts.

The incidents happened all over Huddersfield including Almondbury, Lepton, Newsome, Crosland Moor, Kirkheaton, Fenay Bridge and Kirkheaton.

Police warned at the time it was highly dangerous and could end in tragedy.
