ARCHER Stephen Dixon has smashed two national records with his archery skills.

Stephen, 17, of Williams Street, Crosland Moor, set a record by scoring 1142 points out of a maximum 1200 at the Pendle and Samlesbury Bowman Indoor Shoot two weeks ago. The record had stood for eight years.

The event was held at Accrington and he won the senior category.

Then he went on to score 590 points at the National Indoor Junior Championships at Ryton-on-Dunsmore near Coventry.

The previous record was 588 - which Stephen himself set in November at the Northern Counties Championships in South Shields.

At the National Indoor Junior Championships he also won the junior category and was named overall boys' champion.

Stephen - an apprentice at Pogson's Joinery in Golcar - has been involved in archery for four years and has represented Yorkshire for three.

Stephen is a member of the Savile Bowmen archery club, which practises at Spen Valley High School, Liversedge.
