A POLICE patrol car was set on fire while a woman officer was inside a witness' home taking a statement. Huddersfield fire crews were called to the scene and within minutes they faced a second blaze on a nearby street. There they found a second vehicle, a mini bus that had been set alight, right outside the owner's house. The suspected arson attack on the Vauxhall Nova took place on Ruskin Grove, Sheepridge at 8.30am today. The second attack minutes later on the Sherpa minibus took place on Browning Grove. The engine of the police car was badly burned. A fire spokesman said: "Both vehicles were in a bad state when two fire crews arrived - one at each scene. Both were well alight by the time we got there and they were completely engulfed in smoke and flames." Malicious ignition of both cars is suspected. Police are appealing for witnesses to the crimes.
