A CRICKET club hit by arsonists has unveiled plans for a new base.

Lascelles Hall Cricket Club has applied to Kirklees Council to transform an agricultural field into football pitches.

They also want permission for a pavilion, changing facilities and a new car park at the Highfield Lane site.

It will go before Kirklees planners tomorrow at 1pm at Huddersfield Town Hall. Planning officers recommended it for approval.

The old clubhouse was destroyed in an arson attack in 2010.

The blaze not only destroyed the clubhouse and dressing rooms but also wrecked 185 years of the club’s illustrious history, including treasured mementoes and irreplaceable archives.

Club members rallied together to get the plans before the council.

They want permission for either one adult pitch or two junior football pitches.

Despite being in the greenbelt, the proposed pavilion is a replacement for the old clubhouse.

Five letters of objection were submitted to the council, with concerns about the scale of the development, access, location to public paths and noise from the bar.
