A ZANY installation by London- based artist Anthony Green forms a dramatic centrepiece for the latest exhibition at the North Light Gallery, Armitage Bridge.

Titled Resurrection - An Act Of Faith, the piece has been shown in more than 20 cathedrals.

The huge head of the artist dominates the installation, as he looks back at his Catholic childhood in North London and forward to the day of resurrection.

The artist's father, who was a heavy drinker, is shown spilling whisky from his son's christening mug.

Characterful figures are pulled out of their armchairs to zoom skywards at the resurrection, while dead relatives, housed in a shoe valise, await transportation by train to eternal life.

A 1,000 watt bulb lights up at times to augment the light of God.

Despite the humour, the artist declares the spiritual purpose of his work.

He said: "I know that I paint in a world of hope, love and redemption, which will triumph over the angst- ridden false gods of today."
