Artists and musicians are pulling out all the stops to herald the Tour de France.

There are just 23 days to go until the world’s top cyclists descend on Huddersfield and Calderdale.

And that means we are entering the final quarter of Yorkshire Festival 2014 – a 100-day spectacular of art events and cultural activities taking place across the region.

Thousands of people across the region have already got involved as the county races towards the culmination of the Festival , Yorkshire’s Grand Départ on July 5 and 6.

Yorkshire Festival 2014 is the first ever arts festival to precede the Tour de France, the world’s biggest annual sporting event and includes 47 specially commissioned projects as well as hundreds of fringe events.

There are still many events and performances taking place across the region as the pace ramps up in anticipation of the Grand Depart.

Major events still to come in Huddersfield include:

Tour De Force Bicycle Orchestras, June 20 and 21: Join Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and learn how to use bicycle parts as musical instruments at two workshops at the Packhorse Gallery in Huddersfield leading up to the final performance on June 21 at 3:30pm at Nelson Mandela Corner, Princess Alexandra Walk, Huddersfield. Please contact Sarah McWatt for more information about the workshops 01484 471116

Lost Boy Racer, June 25 - July 8 in Huddersfield, Harrogate and Wakefield. A quirky Northern comedy-drama with a large dose of cycling wisdom, off-the-wall bike antics and a love story, of sorts. For more information http://festival.yorkshire.com/events/lost-boy-racer

Hypervelocity, July 2 - 6: Don’t miss the unveiling in St George’s Square of a charming idea to bring a French rural idyll to a very Yorkshire town square, all will be unveiled on the opening day. Please contact Kirklees Council for more information on 01484 414824.

Another event is called Tour de Brass, which is a weekend of brass band concerts around the region, including Holmfirth.

And there are also a series of gigs by the Hope and Social Band, who will play in Holmfirth, Elland and West Vale on June 22. For details
