Asylum seekers and refugees are to wine and dine Huddersfield food lovers.

A group of talented chefs who get help from the charity Destitute Asylum Seekers Huddersfield (DASH) have set up a dinner party service, which will see them cook world cuisine in people’s own homes.

For just £15 a head they will make a three course meal from scratch inspired by their home countries.

Persian, Thai, Pakistani, Indian, Malaysian and Turkish cuisine is all on the menu for hungry guests, who will get to learn more about the dishes and the backgrounds and cultures of the chefs through the evening.

The new service will also help raise desperately-needed funds for the entirely volunteer run charity, which has been struggling financially due to a rise in people requiring help.

Lucy Lucy, founder of DASH, based at New North Road, Huddersfield, said: “We’re really excited about this.

“We have lots of talented chefs who make us amazing food and they want to share their skills with others.

“The idea is that when we get a booking we will tell the dinner party host what sort of cuisine they can have on the night depending on who is available.

“They will then communicate directly with the chef who will create a menu based on their requirements.

“The chef will then do the shopping and take it to the house on the night.

“They will prepare the table, make the food and then wash and tidy up at the end and go home.

“The dinner parties will be a great way for the chefs to share their culture while allowing them to get involved with fundraising for the charity.”

Lucy, who works for free at DASH full time, explained what the money would be used for.

“At the moment we have hardly any money left, which we need to be able to continue to provide our services, which are becoming stretched as we are getting between 40 and 50 people a week.

“Those who come to us for help are living on only £36.95 a week.

“We find them accommodation, provide them with food and essentials, teach them English, help them prepare their cases to apply to become a refugee and take them to Home Office interviews.

“At the moment some people, including families, need help to buy a bus pass to take their children to school or get medical help.”
