TWO teenagers arrested in connection with a brutal assault on a young couple in a park in Leeds have been released on bail.

The 18-year-old local men were arrested on Sunday in connection with the attack on two students in Chapel Allerton Park.

The victims were playing frisbee in the park on Saturday morning when they were verbally abused by a group of men, West Yorkshire Police said.

The 20-year-old woman fled into a nearby wooded area where she was subjected to a sustained sex attack by three men.

Her 21-year-old boyfriend was beaten unconscious.

Det Supt Chris Thompson appealed to dog walkers or joggers who may have been in the park off Pasture Lane between 7am and 8am on Saturday to contact officers.

Mr Thompson said the woman had been left extremely traumatised by her ordeal and was being counselled by specially trained officers.

He added: "By anyone's standards this is an appalling crime committed against an innocent young couple."
