A MAN was beaten unconscious by two thugs who then robbed him as he lay on the ground.

The 22-year-old victim was on George Street at its junction with Holly Bank Road in Lindley when he was approached by the two thieves shortly after 1.30am yesterday.

One demanded his wallet and when the victim refused, the mugger’s accomplice hit the man twice in the face, knocking him out.

They then searched through his clothes and stole his Samsung MP3 player, his Samsung mobile phone and a black leather wallet.

The victim had suffered injuries to his face including a black eye, cuts, bumps and bruises along with bruises to his arm.

Det Con Russ Conlon, of Kirklees CID intelligence unit, said: “This was a vicious attack and the robbers then stole from the victim when he was clearly in no position to do anything about it.

“If anyone has any idea who is responsible we would very much like to hear from them.’’

One of the thieves is white, in his early 20s and 5ft 10ins with short blond hair.

The other is white, aged about 22, 5ft 6ins with short dark hair and a distinctive large forehead.

He wore a baggy dark jacket.
