Two men wearing balaclavas tried to rob a 19-year-old woman on Sunday evening.
The woman was walking down some steps at Kilner Bank, Huddersfield, when she was attacked.
Det Insp Stef Wiseman of Kirklees CID said: “As she was walking down the steps in a wooded area at 6pm on Sunday she was approached by two men.
“They were both wearing dark clothing and balaclavas.
“One of them wore gloves.
“They tried to take her handbag from off her shoulder but she ran out onto the main road and they ran off.
“This was a horrible, attempted robbery and very unpleasant indeed.
“Information can be passed to myself at Huddersfield CID on 101, or information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
