It is a group which has provided help to hundreds.

And now volunteers and clients, past and present, have come together to celebrate the success of Auntie Pam’s in Dewsbury and Huddersfield.

They marked the fifth anniversary of the advice project at a fun open day with a birthday bake off.

The service - which was commissioned by Kirklees Council’s Public Health team - was set up five years ago to support mums-to-be and new mums in Dewsbury. In November 2014 they expanded to include a second branch in Queensgate Market in Huddersfield.

Auntie Pam’s understand some of the pressures that mums-to-be and new mums face and encourage them to call in for a chat and a cuppa.

The trained volunteers, who are all local mums, offer a confidential and non-judgemental listening ear and can also help with signposting to services and offer resources such as books and baby clothes and equipment.

Over the last five years the award winning volunteers have helped nearly 300 women and offered nearly 800 one to one support sessions.

One user of the service said “Auntie Pam’s gave me the best support I have ever had and have worked wonders for me and my unborn son. All I can say is a massive thank you to all the volunteers”

Dee Haigh, from Kirklees Council’s public health team, said “Auntie Pam’s is a great service and its success it testament to the hard work and willingness of local women to volunteer their time and undertake training to help others.

“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has been involved over the last five years.”

Anyone can call in and there’s no need for an appointment.
