It seems to have been quite a poor summer so far but surprisingly temperatures for June were around average for the time of year although rainfall was much higher than average.

The information is supplied by Huddersfield University ’s school of Applied Sciences weather station which says that warmer night time figures that have boosted the daily averages.

Looking at the six months from January to June 1990 to 2016 it was the sixth wettest since our records began.

The monthly mean temperature was 15.39˚C (59.7˚F) just slightly above the average figure for June of 15.13˚C.

The warmest day of the month was Tuesday, June 7 with an average temperature of 21˚C (69.8˚F) and the maximum temperature of 27.8˚C (82˚F) was also recorded on this day.

The coldest day of the month was Thursday, June 2 with an average temperature of 9.7˚C (49.5˚F).

The lowest minimum temperature of 8.1˚C (46.6˚F) was recorded on Wednesday, June1.

A total of 84.8mm of rainfall was recorded during the month (average 63.54mm). The wettest day of the month was Monday, June 13 with 11.6mm (13.7% of the month’s total). Eleven days of the month escaped rainfall with the driest spell between Wednesday, June 1 and Tuesday, June 7.

The mean wind speed for the month was 9.32km/hr. The highest mean wind speed was 27km/hr recorded on Wednesday 1st. The maximum gust of 89.28km/hr was recorded on Wednesday, June 29.

The prevailing wind direction for the month was southwest.
