A RASTRICK school is being rewarded for its healthy food.
Carr Green Primary School will this week receive a bronze certificate for promoting healthy eating.
To achieve the Food for Life Bronze Award schools have to demonstrate their commitment to reducing additives, using freshly prepared and seasonal produce and catering for all dietary needs.
Lyn Plant, Calderdale Council’s catering manager, said: “To achieve these Food for Life Awards shows the dedication of all those involved. It can sometimes be a struggle for healthy food to be popular with children but the Food for Life Initiative makes it so much easier.
“We work hard with our schools and recent results have revealed that the schools in our catering contract have the highest uptake of school lunches compared to regional and national averages.
“In addition, Calderdale has the lowest obesity prevalence again compared to the regional and national average for reception and year six pupils.”
