AN award-winning steel band banged the drum for Huddersfield in London.

Members of the North Stars Steel Orchestra travelled to the capital to collect a prestigious national award.

At a glittering evening, they received recognition for 30 years in the music business.

Judges from the British Association of Steelbands handed out the special award for achievements in getting hundreds of young people involved over the last three decades.

North Stars manager Kelvin Benjamin said: "There is no greater honour than to be acknowledged by your peers.

"The people who chose us for this award all run steel bands themselves so they know how hard it has been to keep a successful show on the road for 30 years."

The ceremony was held at the Bloomsbury Holiday Inn, with Trinidad and Tobago High Commissioner Mrs Glenda Morean Phillip a special guest.
