CELEBRATING Kirklees childcare was the focus of an awards ceremony held at Huddersfield’s Galpharm Stadium.

More than 30 childcare providers were presented with awards and certificates at the event – organised by Kirklees Early Years – to mark their achievements in raising the quality of childcare provided in Kirklees.

And a new project called the Kirklees Childcare Affiliation Scheme was also launched, aimed at helping carers improve the quality of their provision and making sure parents can find good quality childcare through close links with local children’s centres.

Cllr Jim Dodds, cabinet member for children and young people, said:

“I congratulate all those who gained certificates.

“They provide a very valuable service to families in Kirklees.”

Christine Renshaw, head of Kirklees Early Years Service, added: “I am delighted to see so many of our childcare providers achieving quality assurance awards.

“It is testament to their dedication to driving up the quality of provision for children in Kirklees.

“The introduction of the Kirklees Childcare Affiliation Scheme is an important part of linking up colleagues in the childcare sector with the development of our children’s centres.”

The main speech was given by Professor Christine Pascal, director of the Centre for Research in Early Education in Birmingham and also co-director of the Effective Early Learning and the Accounting Early for Life Long Learning projects.

She was awarded an OBE in 2001 for services to early years.
