A BRAVE Huddersfield girl was presented with an award by the Duchess of Cornwall at a star-studded ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

Ayeesha Javaid, from Crosland Moor, has a severe form of haemophilia and has never had a full night's sleep because of bleeding.

She was one of 10 children to be presented with Women's Own Children of Courage awards in London.

Ayeesha also joined the other youngsters for a trip to Downing Street, for a special breakfast reception with Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie.

She was presented with an engraved gold medallion by the Duchess.

It was the first time the Duchess has performed the task which was once carried out by Diana, Princess of Wales.

Wearing a petrol blue Anthony Price crepe wool dress and jacket, Camilla shook hands with each of the winners before hanging the medals around their necks.

Hundreds of guests including June Whitfield, 1980s Children's TV presenter Floella Benjamin, David Blunkett MP, singer Darius and the X Factor's Chico, packed into the Abbey.

Ayeesha was watched at the Abbey by proud parents Amjed and Ruksana, sister Iqru, three, and uncle Mohammed Rauf.

Her own difficulties have not prevented her from wanting to help others.

Last year she donated her £100 Christmas present money to help those affected by the Asian tsunami.

Former EastEnder Ross Kemp read a Christmas lesson at the ceremony.
