TWO people - one from Dewsbury - arrested about a 1996 murder have been freed on police bail.

A Thornhill man and a Bradford woman - both aged 38 - left Bradford Central police station on Saturday.

They had been questioned for four days.

They were arrested last Wednesday on suspicion of murdering 49-year-old Lennie Fulbirg.

He disappeared in August, 1996, and his dismembered remains were found in a lay-by close to the village of Oxenhope, near Keighley, in March, 1997.

But police were only able to publicly confirm his identity early last week, following advances in DNA technology.

Mr Fulbirg, originally from Newcastle upon Tyne, lived in Bradford.

He had been married four times and had fathered up to 32 children with a number of women.

He was a thief with a number of convictions for dishonesty.

He also had a conviction for indecently assaulting an under-age girl.

Mr Fulbirg disappeared on August 11, 1996, after telling his family he was meeting a friend at a McDonald's restaurant on Rooley Lane in Bradford.

He was never seen again.
