A YOUNG girl has flown to America for vital medical treatment to give her a new life.

Bailey Coppack, who has a tumour on her brain, has flown with her family to Oklahoma for pioneering care.

And the trip has been made possible thanks to the generosity of family and friends.

They have raised more than £25,000 to help pay for the care necessary after the proton therapy treatment at the ProCure Proton Therapy Centre in Oklahoma.

Bailey flew out with mum Lisa, stepfather Graham Ellis, sister Ellie and half-brother Jamie.

Her dad Damien will join her next month, half-way through the treatment.

The youngster will undergo ground-breaking radiotherapy, which is not available in the UK.

Doctors in West Yorkshire who have been treating Bailey confirmed last month the US treatment could go ahead.

Bailey discovered that she had a benign brain tumour when she collapsed in 2008.

The tumour is wrapped around her brain stem and treatments available in the UK could paralyse her or affect her ability to learn.

It has already affected her hearing.

Bailey, of Overhall Road, Mirfield, will be in America for between eight and 12 weeks.

The massive fundraising campaign for the youngster got a huge boost from Huddersfield Town.

Step-dad Graham is a keen Town fan and he asked the club to help.

They dedicated a match to Bailey and have now handed over a cheque for £10,000, including proceeds from programme sales for the game.

The Department of Health are funding some of Bailey’s treatment in America, including the cost of three flights and money towards accommodation.

But the family is now fundraising to bridge the shortfall and the financial pressure they will be under in the coming months.

Bailey attends Castle Hall School in Mirfield and many of her school friends and teachers have backed the fund-

raising efforts.

Pupils and teachers took part in a sponsored walk from the Mirfield school to the Galpharm Stadium.
