A VALENTINE'S ball raised £8,000 towards founding a children's hospice in West Yorkshire.

About 200 people attended the event, organised by the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust.

Charity founder Linda Senior, of Ainley Top, organised the dinner dance along with her aunt, Wendy Power, of Upperthong, and friend Sheila Fitzgerald, of Berry Brow.

Linda said: "It was a wonderful event and the amount of money raised just goes to show it is a charity close to very many people's hearts."

The black tie dinner, held at the Hilton Hotel, Bradford, featured casino games and live music from Huddersfield singer Keith Washington Campbell, who appeared on ITV's Stars In Their Eyes show.

The charity aims to build a children's hospice in Calderdale or Kirklees.

The winning raffle ticket numbers were: 0498, 1922 and 1840.
