A MELTHAM restaurant has helped raise over £400 to support older people's charity Age Concern Kirklees.

The Meltham Balti Restaurant held a buffet meal for 36 supporters of the charity, which provides support services for elderly people in Kirklees.

The money, coupled with proceeds from a raffle, raised a total of £412.

Restaurant owner Arosh Ali did not take any of the money. Instead, it went towards Age Concern Kirklees' Home From Hospital Support Service.

The scheme involves trained volunteers visiting elderly people every week for six weeks when they have come out of hospital. They listen to concerns, offer advice and help with tasks such as shopping.

Fundraising manager Alan Rawnsley said the event had been a success.

He said: "Guests were extremely generous and were treated to a superb meal."

Elderly people are usually referred for Home From Hospital Support Service by health professionals.

But they can also arrange the help themselves by contacting community service manager Judith Pringle on 01484 559935.

Anyone wanting to volunteer for Age Concern Kirklees can contact Judith on the number.
