A BEVY of bands will be descending on Barnsley this week as music venue Lucorum hosts a double-whammy of gigs.

On Thursday, Leeds band The Music will be playing the venue.

The band - whose gigs last year were few and far between - are currently on a run of small gigs which started at The Cockpit in Leeds in December.

The Lucorum gig has sold out online and has fans coming from as far away as the USA and Paris.

The Music are hoping to slowly launch themselves back into the limelight after a year out of the public eye recording their new album.

The Music shot to fame in 2002 and cemented their position in 2004 with second album Welcome To The North.

On Friday, Manchester group Polytechnic will be entertaining the crowds.

The band formed in March 2005 and have earnt a name for high-energy shows with mordant yet melodic tunes.

They are power punk-pop and don't need a set of matching skinny ties to look and sound stylish.

Playing alongside them will be another Manchester act, The Answering Machine who got together in late 2005.

They peddle a brand of joyous poetic pop music inspired by The Strokes and Shout Out Louds.

Barnsley boys The Headliners will also be on stage on February 9.

The five lads have so far enjoyed a strong local profile and have supported the likes of The Pigeon Detectives, Little Man Tate and The Holloways, to name a few.

They deal in sharp, boppy, ska-tinged tunes and promise to give you a good time.

* Limited tickets for The Music are available for £12. Tickets for February 9 cost £6.
