A man has appeared in court after allegedly threatening his girlfriend with a knife and hammer.

Police arrived to find bare chested Anthony Mortimer holding a cot above his head, Kirklees Magistrates’ Court heard.

He had allegedly threatened his girlfriend Cheryl O’Keefe with the weapons, dragged her down the stairs, stood on her throat and thrown the cot at her.

The alleged incident happened while the couple were at Miss O’Keefe’s home in West Park Terrace, Batley, on Saturday (May 21).

Mortimer, 29, denies assault and faces trial at the Huddersfield court on July 1.

In the meantime Mortimer, of Thorn Street in Batley, is remanded in custody.
