HUDDERSFIELD MP Barry Sheerman has called for regional banks to be set up by the Labour Party.

He told a meeting in Huddersfield they would be regulated and run in the interests of local people and small and medium sized businesses.

Mr Sheerman praised the local businesses he had met in Huddersfield who are supporting the employment of young people and giving them a chance.

He said many businesses genuinely cared about the community and invested in the town, in contrast to some globally-based firms who gave nothing back but avoided even paying their taxes.

“We need to dispel the myth that the Tories are better at running the economy than Labour”, said Mr Sheerman.

The meeting at the Sikh Leisure Centre continued with lively debate about the best way to implement Labour’s plans for a better future for all.
