A new £1.75m development on Bath Street is making town centre living more affordable for Huddersfield residents.

And it is breathing new life into parts of the town centre.

Yorkshire Housing has overseen the development to create 16 two-bed apartments on the site which is only five minutes walk from Huddersfield train station and the town centre.

The visually-striking glass fronted apartments called Roseda House, were built by Slaithwaite builders H, B & E Limited.

The completed apartments have since been let by Yorkshire Housing’s Space property, primarily to working people on low or average incomes.

Yorkshire Housing Chief Executive Mervyn Jones invited Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman to look around the housing association’s most recent development.

Mr Sheerman said: “It was great to visit Roseda House and meet residents living there. It is important that the housing needs of everyone in local the community are catered for.

“This is a great example of a development that offers good-quality accommodation for people on low incomes – it is the type of housing scheme I would like to see more of.”

Mr Sheerman met residents Steven and Maya Ivanov who moved into the apartments during the summer with their daughter.

Steven said: “Before we moved to Roseda House we lived in a privately rented house but the rent was expensive and the property was damp.

“Moving to Roseda House has meant we are able to better balance work and study and it is a healthier place to bring up our daughter. The flat is ideal for us and it’s in a great location.

“There is a mixture of families, couples and single people living here, we have good neighbours and there is a friendly atmosphere.”

Yorkshire Housing Chief Executive Mervyn Joes said: “With private rents rising faster than wages, and increasing house prices putting home ownership out of the reach of many, it is vital more is done to provide affordable homes.”
