A teenager has been arrested following a shooting in Batley last night.

The arrest in the Bunkers Lane area of Staincliffe came after police were called to the forecourt of the BP petrol station in Bradford Road, near the Tesco’s Extra store, at 10.26pm.

A 23-year-old man was found by police and had suffered gunshot wounds.

He was taken to hospital but his injuries are not life-threatening.

Det Chief Insp Mark McManus, said: “A 19-year-old man has now been arrested in connection with the shooting and will be questioned this afternoon by detectives.

“Our enquiries remain ongoing and we are very much continuing to appeal for information.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
