A man has escaped a jail term after admitting a string of driving offences.
Craig Midgley, of Healey Lane in Batley, appeared before Kirklees magistrates yesterday.
He pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and using a vehicle without insurance or a valid test certificate.
The offences happened on September 4, the court was told.
Midgley also admitted making off from the Jet Petrol Station in Leeds Road, Dewsbury, without paying for fuel and assaulting a man there.
The 34-year-old admitted an additional charge of stealing two bottles of vodka from a Tesco store in Batley.
Magistrates gave him a 12-month community order which includes nine month of drug treatment.
The order was made as a direct alternative to custody.
Midgley was also banned from driving for 12 months.
