A MAN from Batley has been killed and a Mirfield man seriously injured in a road accident last night.

Gloucestershire Police are appealing for witnesses to the fatal road traffic collision which happened on the M5 yesterday evening.

The emergency services were called to the five vehicle collision between junctions nine and eight on the northbound carriageway at around 9.10pm.

Two lorries, two vans and a car were involved in the incident.

A passenger in one of the vans, a 22-year-old man from Batley, was taken to Worcester Royal Hospital where he died a short while later.

The driver of the same van, a 27-year-old from Mirfield, was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with serious injuries.

A 46-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent, who was driving one of the lorries, was also taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham where he is being treated for serious injuries.

Witnesses to the collision that haven’t yet spoken to police are asked to contact Gloucestershire Constabulary on telephone number 101, quoting incident number 444 of May 1.

The motorway was closed until around 6.30am this morning to allow for a full investigation to take place.
