Local students snapped the LA glamour on a once in a lifetime trip.

Fourteen lucky students from Kirklees College swapped their normal classrooms at Batley School of Art to travel to California in the USA to hone their photography and design skills and gain inspiration.

And it was made an especially memorable trip when they bumped into actor Kevin Costner and stars from hit shows the Big Bang Theory and The Interview.

The group got to take part in unplanned interviews with Costner while visiting the red carpet in Hollywood ahead of the premiere of new movie, McFarland USA.

It was just one of the exciting highlights of their trip, in which they also saw the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Beverly Hills, LA County Museum of Art, Getty Centre, Universal Studios, Warner Brothers Studios and Santa Monica Boulevard.

Photography course leader Katrina Whitehead, who organised the trip, said: “Another highlight for everyone was the film studio tours, which incorporated behind the scenes visits to famous television shows such as Friends, Desperate Housewives, Back to the Future and Normal Bates’ Motel from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho.

“Filming was taking place everywhere you go and we even bumped into actors from the Big Bang Theory and The Interview.

“The art gallery exhibitions were plentiful and the costume gallery was exceptionally well curated, with interviews and outfits from classic films such as The Matrix and The Wizard of Oz.

“Students from the degree programmes said that they thought the visit was the opportunity of a lifetime and they especially enjoyed the warm weather, cheap public transport, meeting interesting people and the fact there was so much to see and do.

“Overall they found it very educational and have been inspired to return one day.”
