A woman was badly hurt when she was struck by a car on a zebra crossing.
She suffered serious injuries when she was carried for several yards down the road on the bonnet of the car.
Police said the car had swerved on to the wrong side of the road as a vehicle in front stopped suddenly at the crossing in Purwell Lane, Batley, shortly after 10pm last night.
It happened only minutes after an horrific crash in nearby Victoria Avenue, in which a man died when a car hit a tree, but police stressed the two incidents were totally unconnected.
The injured woman was taken to Pinderfields Hospital with serious multiple injuries as police launched a major investigation.
They appealed for witnesses to contact them via 101.
