ANOTHER event in Kirklees has been washed out.

The Sealed Knot Spectacular has been scrapped because of the wet weather.

Organisers of the event said the ground at Oakwell Country Park at Birstall was sodden.

The event was due to take place next Saturday and Sunday.

Senior museum officer Eric Brown said: “The fields are saturated, so for the health and safety of visitors, staff and the Sealed Knot – as well as potential damage to the site – we’ve got no choice but to cancel.”

The Sealed Knot Society promotes public interest in the story of the English Civil War.

Next weekend’s event would have included a re-enactment of the Battle of Adwalton Moor, which took place near Drighlington in 1643.

Mr Brown said he hoped the Sealed Knot event could be rearranged, probably for some time next year.

The event’s cancellation comes after the Huddersfield Carnival and Mela, planned for last weekend, were scrapped.

Both events were due to take place in Greenhead Park, but Kirklees officials had to stop them because of the sodden ground.
