Extended trading hours – including Sunday opening – will feature at a revamped post office.

Battyeford post office at Stocksbank Road, Mirfield, will close at 5.30pm on Tuesday, September 22, for refurbishment and reopen at 1pm on Monday, September 28, with an open-plan counter where the post office terminal sits alongside the till.

The refurbished branch will open from 6am to 7pm Monday to Friday; 6am to 5pm on Saturday and 6am to 12 noon on Sunday and will provide a wide range of services for residents and small businesses, including Special Delivery, Local Collect, home shopping returns, online banking cash deposits and withdrawals as well as Post Office Card Account, sending funds abroad using Moneygram, paying bills, pre-ordering travel money, applying for travel insurance and topping up mobile phones.

The opening hours which will increase by an extra 41 hours a week will ensure that the branch is much more convenient for users with more choice of times to visit.

During the closure period, customers can use Mirfield Post Office, Food Fair, Huddersfield Road, Mirfield; or Bradley Post Office, 1 Brooks Yard, Bradley Road, Huddersfield.

Alan Currie, area manager said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

He said: “We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future. The investment marks a commitment to our no more branch closure programme.”
